About Us

Welcome to the Ranch!

Recently, we were very fortunate to move to the central Colorado mountains from the Denver area. We became instantly rejuvenated by views of Sangre De Cristo mountain range and the Arkansas River valley, and the relaxed pace of rural living. Dozens of bluebirds inhabited the property, and thus Bluebird Z Ranch was born! Trying to find an outlet for my rediscovered creative energy, I came upon soap making. As an RN, the science and art that goes into the formulation and design of a soap recipe really speaks to me- it is fascinating! I met some nice goats along the way at a neighbor's farm, and my first cold process soap recipe was conceived...a goat milk, oats and honey soap, aka " Goats Eat Oats". I was instantly hooked, and have been researching ever since. My passion is creating recipes that benefit our skin and the environment, with quality ingredients that are responsibly sourced, and minimal, sustainable packaging.

Some Info on Ingredients

My recipes are made from the cold process method, which involves mixing fats with an alkali (lye) and the resulting chemical reaction, or saponification, becomes soap! All ingredients are cruelty free, and I strive to find the most sustainable options. The oils I use are plant based and palm free. I often use goat milk- fresh and local when possible, and plant based milks such as oat and coconut- each bring a special quality to the final soap. Aloe juice, chamomile tea, coffee and distilled water are liquids I frequently use in vegan soap recipes. I do occasionally use tussah silk for a luxurious feeling lather, and raw Colorado honey for conditioning, which are not used in any vegan soaps. Colors are created with all natural clays, plant based pigments, or skin safe micas. Fragrances are all phthalate-free or essential oils from reputable sources, with your safety in mind.  All soap is personally tested for lather and safe pH levels before sale. Because I craft each batch individually, there can be variations from batch to batch in the size, color or fragrance of your soap. Cut soaps will usually weight between 4-6 oz depending on the design.

Tips for a Longer Lasting Soap

Keep your bar out of standing water and as dry as possible between uses- a draining soap dish is a great idea! I have soap savers and wooden soap dishes available in the products section.

Custom Orders Available

If you have special skin concerns or allergies, I can create a soap for you! Soap is also a great gift for showers, weddings, fundraisers, or other special events.  If interested, contact me at kim@bluebirdranch.com.  Cold process soap recipes take 6 weeks to properly cure, so I would need at least a 2 month lead time. Wholesale orders also welcome.

Good Soap that Gives Back!

One of the heartfelt platforms in which I built my business is to make sure I am supporting causes that are important, not just for me, but for all of us.  From time to time, I will design a soap with proceeds going to an important social, humanitarian, or environmental cause, including charitable, mental health, medical, environmental, and social justice platforms. If you have a cause important to you and would like to create a fundraiser, feel free to contact me at kim@bluebirdzranch.com and let’s make it happen!

Bluebird Z Ranch LLC sells soap, which simply is designed to cleanse the skin.  Even though I am an R.N., I cannot make any medical claims per FDA regulations.

Thank you for supporting my small business dream!
